Highly-efficient new BlueMotion models: CO2 from 87g/km
Production versions of three new highly-efficient additions to the BlueMotion range have been unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
The new Polo, Golf and Passat BlueMotion models emit just 87g/km, 99g/km and 114g/km of CO2 respectively, whileevery variant is also capable of travelling at least 840 miles on a single tank of fuel.
Each model features a rodynamic changes: new front bumper, sill extensions, a lower ride height and relocated air ducts behind the grille elements. The result is less aerodynamic drag leading to less loading on the engine and greater economy.

New Polo BlueMotion: 87g/km
The most efficient model of all, the new Polo BlueMotion, has an all-new 1.2-litre three-cylinder common-rail diesel engine developing 75PS. The new engine combined with longer gearing through the five-speed gearbox, regenerative braking and stop-start systems allows the new Polo BlueMotion to achieve a remarkable 85.6 mpg on the combined cycle while emitting 87g/km of CO2 to make it one of the most efficient vehicles currently on sale.
New Golf BlueMotion: 99g/km
The new Golf BlueMotion (available on the S trim) is powered by a 1.6-litre TDI common-rail diesel engine developing 105PS. As with the Polo, the Golf features optimised aerodynamics and longer gearing to make maximum use of the efficiency of the engine. Low rolling resistance tyres and automatic stop-start technology also play their part.
Through a series of small but effective changes the Golf BlueMotion emits just 99g/km of CO2 and can achieve a combined economy figure of 74.3 mpg, which equates to a theoretical range f 899 miles on a single tank of fuel.
The new Passat BlueMotion: 114g/km
The Passat Blu Motion has a 1.6-litre common-rail diesel engine developing 105PS for the first time. This new engine replaces the existing 2.0-litre TDI unit currently fitted to the Passat BlueMotion, and allows the new car to return 64 2 mpg on the combined cycle – up from the 57.6 mpg achieved by the outgoing car. At the same time emissions fall from 128g/km to just 114g/km of CO2.
This new version of the Passat BlueMotion is an enhanced version of the Passat Bluemotion 1.6 TDI 105PS announced in August.
All three models are due to go on sale in the UK in early 2010 with UK prices and right-hand drive specifications to be announced nearer the time.
