Northampton Motor Dealer bucks the trend and reports record sales

In the same week that the Society of Motor Manufacturer and Traders (SMMT) announced a fall in new car sales, Spirit Hyundai has revealed an increase in sales of both new and used vehicles.

Said Spirit Motor Group Managing Director, Adam Derbyshire: “I think much of the credit for this success has to go to our brand partner, Hyundai, and the vehicles they are providing for us. The i10, for example, which is extremely spacious and comfortable while still qualifying for a low tax band of just £35, has been extremely popular. And even higher up the range we are enjoy significant sales with the i30.

“It’s no coincidence that Hyundai has recently been announced as the fifth largest car manufacturer in the world, behind General Motors, Ford, Volkswagen and Toyota. For a company that only started in 1967 that’s pretty good going and we’re delighted to be able to share in that success here in Northampton.”

Between January and June 2008 Spirit Hyundai Northampton sold a total of 141 new Hyundai cars… an increase of 51.6% compared to the same period last year. The sale of used Hyundai vehicles in the same period rose by 14%.

Meanwhile, soaring fuel costs and rising household bills have been blamed for a reduction in new cars nationwide, with the SMMT reporting a fall of 6.1% in June 2008 compared with the same month last year and overall car sales in the year to the end of June down 1.6% on the previous 12 month period.

Said Adam: “Hyundai offer some fantastic vehicles and in all cases you get a lot of car for surprisingly little money. Customer confidence is further boosted by the fact that all Hyundai products benefit from a five year unlimited mileage warranty and that most of the vehicles, including the SUVs, have a tax bracket of £210 or less, which is especially reassuring given the current climate.”
