TSI engines win in International Engine of the Year Awards 2008
Volkswagen’s turbo- and supercharged TSI engines have won their category in the ‘International Engine of the Year Award’ for the third year.
The dual charged 140PS and 170PS units took first place in the ‘1 litre to 1.4 litre’ category, while the turbocharged 122PS TSI engine came second.
The awards were decided by a jury of 65 journalists from 32 countries. One jury member said ‘This engine does everything right and fits into the most diverse types of vehicles.’
Dr Rüdiger Szengel, Head of Petrol Engine Development, accepted the award for Volkswagen. ‘Our TSI engines have set the standard since their introduction in the 90kW to 125kW performance class,’ said Dr Szengel. ‘They achieve new levels of economy for petrol engines while providing performance that offers real fun. We take it as a compliment to the entire development team that our TSI has won again.’
