New Polo is What Car?'s number one supermini
The new Polo is put up against 'nine great rivals' in the October issue of What Car? magazine, and it comes out on top.
What Car?'s 'supermini megatest' included the following cars:
- Ford Fiesta 1.4i Zetec 5dr
- Honda Jazz 1.4 ES
- Hyundai i20 1.4 Style
- Mazda 2 1.5 Sport 5dr
- Renault Clio 1.2 TCe 100 Dynamique dr
- Seat Ibiza 1.4 Sport 5dr
- Skoda Fabia 1.4 2
- Toyota Yaris 1.33 VVT-i TR
- Vauxhall Corsa 1.4 Club AC 5dr
- Volkswagen Polo 1.4 SE 5dr

What Car?'s testers rated the Polo highly in every area, but none more so than value:
"The 1.4SE costs £12,450. That's £500 less than a comparable Corsa or Clio and £1200 below a Fiesta. Put another way, a top-spec Polo SEL undercuts a mid-spec Fiesta Zetec by £120. Even the SE is better equipped than the Ford, with curtain airbags and stability control as standard, and four electric windows instead of two."
The gushing praise continues: "The Polo is roomier, more refined and more plushly trimmed, too…"
No wonder What Car?'s testers put the Polo on top, saying: "It was the pricing that clinched it. That's not the only reason the Polo comes out on top, for there has to be a lot more to the purchase of a car than how much it costs, but when we saw that £12,450 price and what you get for it, all argument was stifled. Superb quality, all the space you're ever likely to need, a refined and comfortable driving experience , and the prospect of excellent resale values are other big temptations.."
It's a great accolade for the new Polo, and is sure to help drive buyers to showrooms.
